Nature Awareness Weekend Camp

Costs: $50 per camper / $80 for parents

Length of Time: 2 Nights. Arrive Friday Evening. Leave Sunday around 2.30 pm.

Class Description

This camp is for children interested in becoming naturalists. They will become "Natives" in our region by gaining knowledge that will enable them to feel at home in the wilderness. Seeing with new eyes, all the things that have always been around them.

• Look for reptiles
• Learn about mammals at the camp
• Find insects to identify
• Discover useful plants
• Basic wilderness survival skills
• Camp equipment
• Cooking methods
• Star gazing (sky permitting)
• Fishing
• Songs and Games
• Crafts

This is a two nighter! Come out Friday evening as soon as you can, to set up your camp. We will have a campfire and snack (no dinner). Saturday will be a full day of fun and learning, all meals included. Vegetarian Meals Available, like at all of our camps, just let us know your food preferences. Sunday more of the same until 2:30 when camp is over.

Set up for children at least 8 years old.

Each camper is asked to bring a sketch book to create or add to an existing nature journal. Please bring your camping gear to include a tent, sleeping bag, plate, bowl, mug and eating utensils. Tent camping in a Boy and Girl area. There will also be a family section. If the weather is warm enough, we have a pond to swim in and outdoor showers, so don't forget your swim suit and towels. Camp chairs are nice to have but not a necessity. Flash lights are nice but also bring a red tissue or cloth for star gazing.

Special Notice to Scouts:

Boy Scout Merit Badges that we'll meet some of the requirements (let us know which ones you want to work on,) Reptile & Amphibian Study, Mammal Study, Insect Study, Fishing, Nature

Girl Scout Junior merits that will be completed are Camp Together & Outdoor Cooking

Cadette/Senior complete Camping

We have a swimming pond, so bring provisions to enjoy.

NOTE : All classes have a minimum number of registrants to make or sorry to say it will be cancelled. So bring your friends and tell everyone you know. Some classes are listed but are not currently on the schedule for the upcoming year. If your group has an interest we can schedule a date for you.

Large Family Rates are available.
